SCIE BIANCHE IN CIELO: Leggende e stregonerie dell’oggi tecnologico

Sembra impossibile ma nell’era della trionfante tecnologia abbondano, anzi, in qualche caso si rafforzano, credenze e leggende paragonabili a quelle che si diffondevano non nel secolo dei “lumi” ma in quello precedente, quando venivano ancora perseguitate le streghe e bruciati gli eretici. Ciò che più sorprende è che tale diffusione avvenga proprio quando la tecnologia ha trovato i mezzi per informare in modo capillare e universale. Questi mezzi, appunto perché universali, non sono facilmente controllabili; d’altra parte systems more traditional (print, radio and TV) are subject to filters, handled by governments and economic and political interests that distort the truth all the more is the least democratic government.

Some may remember the old Milanese still "the Paneroni" that in the postwar years he held rallies in Piazza del Duomo arguing that Galileo was wrong: it was the sun revolved around the Earth.
The stories in circulation are also fertile ground in a public "informed" the cause is often the short memory of many, one wonders of facts and phenomena already known and explained by earlier generations, then, perhaps, forgotten by the same person who had lived young.
One of the many modern stories
For example, it was rumored that the white contrails (condensation trails ) left by aircraft across the sky is not due to a natural phenomenon but to the deliberate release of chemicals that would aim to dispel the clouds or targets "military" is not specified (eg. the spread of epidemics). These fantasies adding that this is a new phenomenon that began only a few years ago, certainly not before the second half of last century.
Indeed, the white stripes in the sky today if they see a lot more than a few years ago for the simple reason that air traffic is steadily increasing.
The performances of the years 1943-44
The writer retains the indelible memory of the grand spectacle "enjoyed" free in the Mediterranean 65 or 66 years ago. The place of observation was a highly mobile platform, the surface of the sea, often sullen and driven by short-wave with foaming crests. Around the place of observation countless pot-bellied cargo ships that storage procedures, with maddening slowness. My place of observation is moved quickly around the trade vessel like the sheep dog does with a flock of sheep. Ho già descritto l’unico episodio di guerra che ho vissuto durante una missione di scorta ad un convoglio. In seguito non ricordo che allarmi aerei, risultati quasi sempre falsi. La potenza militare tedesca si stava ormai ritirando in difesa e, d’altra parte, il nostro teatro di guerra era secondario.
Ma di spettacoli grandiosi ne ho visti tanti, anche nel Mediterraneo, soprattutto quando si preparavano le azioni di sbarco sul continente: centinaia di navi in rada al largo dei porti, convogli di diecine e diecine of ships to transport troops and materials, each with 10,000 tonnes.

Ricordo che allora le cabine degli aerei non erano pressurizzate e che l’equipaggio indossava tute riscaldate con erogatori di ossigeno.
Passata la grande tragedia mi sono augurato di non dover assistere mai più a spettacoli così grandiosi; poi ho pensato che il progresso tecnologico ha rivoluzionato anche (che dico, non anche ma prima di tutto) l’arte della guerra: adesso basterebbe una sola scia in cielo per produrre effetti molto più devastanti di quelli causati dagli stormi dei bombardieri del 1943-44.
Conclusione
La mia testimonianza sembra “tagliare la testa al toro”. Le scie esistono fin da quando gli aerei hanno raggiunto quote di circa 8000 m. Ma io sono vecchio e ormai di testimoni delle “contrail” di allora ne sono rimasti ben pochi. E poi le testimonianze non bastano per convincere i creduloni. Posso ricordare che, secondo molte signore appartenenti alla buona società, le magie di Vanna Marchi valevano sacchi d’oro?
